Dormer repairs

The need for this repair was determined during a larger project, over the course of which we completed a room addition and kitchen renovation as well as an office and bedroom remodel. Gary Palmer detected water damage under the shingles, and the detective work began there.

Palmer’s Project Goals and Challenges

  • Determine the source of and the extent of water damage and then prevent future damage from reoccurring.

Solutions

  • We determined that a prior contractor who built a bathroom dormer did not flash it and had set the windows too low. The result was that water was flowing under the shingles and rotting out a main structural wall.
  • We repaired the structural damage, redesigned and replaced the dormer siding and trim, installed new copper step and counter flashing, new gutters, and reroofed the house.
