This kitchen was spacious and functionally well-designed, but completely outdated. The homeowners wanted a Metropolitan-style kitchen that would be a true focal point when they were entertaining and a great space where they could enjoy cooking every day.
Palmer’s Project Goals and Challenges
- The existing white kitchen cabinets were in great shape, but their traditional look did not reflect the more modern tastes of the homeowners. We knew that preserving them would provide a significant savings for the homeowners.
- The cabinets were custom painted with a Benjamin Moore historical color to coordinate with the new wallpaper. Crown molding was added along the top of the cabinets to add interest and a custom detail. New pewter hardware enhanced the more contemporary look.
- New granite countertops offered resilience and beauty, anchored the kitchen and brought in the more sophisticated black accent color. The smoke mirrored backsplash was added to reflect the granite, visually enlarge the space and make splashes a snap to clean up.
- The large basin Kohler under-mount stainless steel sink, a Grohe faucet, and a soap and water dispenser were installed for added function. A new pewter light fixture was chosen to accent the space and provide necessary lighting. A new smooth-top convection range and microwave were installed and added to the kitchen’s new metropolitan feel.
